Lieutenant Colonel Raymond N. Lantz is currently serving as the Washington Wing Personnel Officer and the Administrative Officer. Colonel Lantz was born in Weiser Idaho and in the early 1960’s was briefly a CAP cadet. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965 and after completing basic training was assigned to technical school at Lowery AFB, Colorado. During technical training he was transferred to McClellan AFB, located at Sacramento California where he completed his technical training and was re-assigned to the 1155th Technical Operation Squadron until discharged in 1975. Here, he was the Non commission Officer in Charge of the Initial Assay Section for over 5 years.

After separation from USAF, he began work for the Department of Navy at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, California, as a Physical Science Technician in the Radiological Controls Department, responsible for overseeing maintenance procedures on the nuclear reactors for radiation levels as well as the spread of radioactive contamination. He was also a Physical Science Technician Instructor responsible the training of both Technicians and civilian workers in radiological controls applicable to their duties

Additionally, as a Nuclear Engineering Technician in the Nuclear Quality Control Department, he planned and conducted compliance inspections and audits of various aspects of the nuclear maintenance performed on both the nuclear reactors and the nuclear support equipment. In 1994 he was transferred to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton Washington as a Physical Science Technician Instructor and retired in 2004.

As an active CAP senior member for over 46 years, Lieutenant Colonel Lantz has served as a composite squadron commander, a group commander, staff positions at numerous cadet encampments, Pacific Region Staff College Curriculum Director, and numerous times as a seminar advisor at RSC. He also served as the Director of Administration and Director of Training for California Wing, Inspector General for Washington Wing, the Pacific Region Inspector General, and the Deputy National Inspector General for Inspections prior to returning to Washington Wing in 2012 where he serves as the Wing Administrative Officer and the Personnel Officer. He was also a member of the National Compliance Inspection Team and participated in over 40 Wing Compliance Inspections.

In February 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Lantz assumed additional duty as the Pacific Region Director of Personnel and the Director of Administration.

He has completed the USAF Squadron Officers School (1973), Air Command and Staff College (1974), Air War College (1978), and was promoted to his current rank on 20 April 1981.

Lt. Colonel Lantz’s Civil Air Patrol awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Award, the Gill Robb Wilson Award, the Exceptional Service Award (one clasp), the Meritorious Service Award (five clasps), the two Achievement Awards, the Commanders Commendation (with four clasps), CAP Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency, Air Search and Rescue Ribbon, and four Search “Find” Ribbons with bronze three-bladed propeller device.
